MANILA, Philippines — The new bishop of the Diocese of Gumaca in Quezon province will be installed in December, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines announced.
According to CBCP news, Missionaries of Jesus priest Euginius Cañete will be ordained as the fourth Bishop of Gumaca at the Antipolo Cathedral, or the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, on Dec. 28.
The 58-year-old priest will start his apostolate in the diocese on Jan. 4, 2025 with an installation ceremony at the Cathedral of San Diego de Alcala in Gumaca town.
Pope Francis appointed Cañete on Sept. 30 to head the diocese of Gumaca, which has one million Catholics in 29 parishes and four mission stations.
Cañete will replace the late bishop Victor Ocampo who died of heart attack in March 2023 as well as the diocese’s vicar generals club 77, Fr. Ramon Uriarte, who served as administrator following Ocampo’s death.
